Procedural | Pipeline in Box
By going procedural, all the steps needed to set up a shot are represented by networks of nodes which are maintained deep into production. This makes it easy to make last minute creative decisions that would be too costly in a traditional CG pipeline.
Lighting and Rendering
Houdini’s lighting workflow provides a flexible and powerful environment for managing lights, building shaders and defining the look of a shot. With Houdini, you can rely on a built-in physically-based rendering solution called Mantra along with support for a wide variety of third party renderers.
Houdini’s crowd system uses artist-friendly shelf tools along with a new packed agent primitive type, a Finite State Machine solver and hardware accelerated display of instanced crowds. The system has a seamless conduit to Houdini’s Mantra renderer and is equipped with controls for crowd layout, steering, ragdoll dynamics, collision avoidance, terrain adaptation, motion blending, and look-at targets.
To bring your characters to life, Character FX such as cloth, finite elements for muscles and wire dynamics for fur are becoming critical to achieve accurate, realistic results over long simulations. Houdini gives you complete control over these effects to add new levels of realism to your creatures and characters.
